It attaches to the girth billets at an angle that frees the horse's shoulder and doesn't restrict movement. A thick, soft chest piece folds around the horse's chest and keeps the saddle in place.

Without the strap that goes between the front legs to the girth, the Free Motion Breastplate moves with the horse without causing shoulder restriction.
